Casino Resort – AWedding Venue Winner?

Why You Should Choose a Casino Resort as Your Wedding Venue

By: Guy Renzi

If you’re planning a wedding, why not give your guests a memorable experience? Have your wedding at a casino, and no one will be at a loss for how to enjoy his or her time. Casinos have many activities, and are the perfect venue for group fun. While you’re at it, have your bachelor and bachelorette party at the casino.

Casino resorts have nightclubs, bars, and several restaurants on site for guests who want to enjoy some evening fun. These are great activities for pre and post wedding celebration.

Casinos also have a plethora of daytime activities, from golf and spas to shopping. Wedding guests won’t have to sit around all day — you can even incorporate some daytime activities into a bachelor or bachelorette celebration.  The resort group planner can step in and help you create an itinerary for a bachelor or bachelorette party. You may also benefit from special group resort discounts.

Gamblers will find both high stakes and less intimidating tables at most casinos. If you’re too scared to bet big, take a class for the table games or ask for a discount for free or match play to get started.  Many casinos like Turning Stone Resort, one of the larger New York casinos, offers weekly promotions and themed tournaments.

Casinos will often offer comps, or complementary items if you play a lot or bet big.  The way casinos keep track of your playing time is by player club cards.  Be sure to sign up for the card so you can earn points every time you play.  You can receive discounts on dining, shows, spa and even rooms.

While a wedding at a casino can be entertaining, don’t let the important details slip your mind. When you’re getting prepared for your special day, keep these planning tips in mind:

  • Choose a date early. It’s wise to have a few in mind when you call to book, in case your first choice is not available.
  • Book hotel rooms for your guests. Before you make your reservation, you will need to know how many guests will be invited. A casino’s group department can assist you, and you should always ask about a group discount.
  • Don’t forget about document logistics. You will need to get a wedding license in the state where you marry. You will need the following items to get a marriage license:

Photo ID
Proof of Age
Social Security Cards
Divorce papers when applicable
Death certificate if widowed
Any proof of health from your doctor

A casino wedding can be the time of your life! You and your guests will create memories that they will go on to talk about for years after and you might even win big money in the process.

Q & A with Makini Regal Designs

Tell us a bit about yourself and when you first became interested in becoming a Floral Designer… what/who inspires you?

Both my grandmothers are avid gardeners and flower enthusiasts, so I always appreciated the beauty of flowers. Watching them tend to their gardens with such affection made me appreciate their fragility and my interest in flowers bloomed into a passion. A desire to learn coupled with a great respect for floral artistry inspired me to enroll in a floral design program. Upon completion, I relinquished my tenure as a Senior Analyst for a Management Consulting firm and launched Makini Regal Designs, a boutique floral and event design company.

What is your favorite flower?

It’s so hard to choose and varies often! Orchids are a staple in every corner of my home. They have a simplistic beauty that makes them such a great statement piece. I am especially fond of Phalaenopsis and Cymbidums and use them in my designs as often as I can. Peonies are also another favorite and make exquisite, fragrant bouquets. Ranunculi are lush, happy and add a touch of gaiety to every occasion.

Where do you get inspiration for your floral designs?

My Brooklyn upbringing and Trinidadian roots are deeply woven into me and inspire everything I do. I also find inspiration daily, from nature, to fashion to colors and textures. My design process, however, is organic – I don’t always fully conceptualize the pieces until I arrive at the flower market, right before an event. Once I choose my primary bloom everything else falls into place, almost magically. I approach each design with an open mind and a fresh approach and try to incorporate even the smallest of detail that will compliment each, unique event.

How would you describe your style?

Makini Regal Designs fuses both classical and contemporary elements with just a touch of whimsy. The result is a unique design suitable for any event, from traditional to avant-garde. We take the needs of our clients very seriously and strive very hard to conceptualize their style and ideas and deliver a stunning final product.

What advice would you offer to brides looking for a great florist for their wedding day?

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life, so every detail has to be perfectly executed. Flowers play such a huge part of your wedding decor so it is important that you choose someone who understands design and can execute your vision. Be prepared for your consultation. Photos of your wedding dress, swatches of your table linen and magazine clippings of your favorite designs can all be helpful in understanding your wedding style. The more information that you can provide your floral designer, the easier it will be for them to create floral artistry that will be sure to wow you and your guests.

The Proposal: Valentine’s Day Edition

The Proposal: Valentine’s Day Edition

Regardless what day of the week Valentine’s Day falls on: Couples all around the world chose this

romantic day to declare their L O V E to each other and the world.

Here are four proposal ideas for anyone looking to make it official on February 14th, 2013

Proposal # 1- Scrapbook It!

Create a scrapbook of memories – Gather ticket stubs, photos, restaurant takeout menus, and event programs – anything that represents your journey of love. On the last page of the scrapbook, have the words “Will You Marry Me” at the top and then present the ring.  Be sure to take a picture after the proposal to complete the last page of the scrapbook.

Proposal # 2- Dining In

Create an intimate and personal setting in your home. Sprinkle roses from the doorway leading into the dining room where there is a romantic table set for two. Have her take a seat. Enter the room with a serving tray with a bottle of champagne or wine with two glasses and the ring box.

Proposal # 3- Menu of Love

Make reservations at a romantic restaurant. Plan ahead and ask the manager for his cooperation. Print up a “special” menu that lists 10 reasons why you love her. After the final number, instruct her to turn over the menu where she will read the words, “Will you marry me”?

Proposal # 4 – Love is in a box of chocolate

Purchase a Valentine’s Day Box of Chocolate. Replace one of the chocolates with the engagement ring. Leave the box of chocolate with a bouquet of flowers on the bed.

Steven B Photography’s Q & A Interview!

Steven B Photography

Serving the New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania

Brief description of business:

Steven B Photography offers a wide variety of Professional Photography, Video Services for Weddings, Special Events & Business services. Providing services to New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Destination photography in the entire East Coast.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and when you first became interested in photography:

I was raised in the Bronx, NY. I’ve been taking pictures for about 11 years. Photography was always important to me, because it’s the only way to capture a special moment in time. People always complimented my pictures, but I didn’t notice that it was a gift until I took classes, and the instructor discussed one of the most important parts of taking a picture. And that was the “Rule of Thirds”. I was using this rule in my pictures before I took pictures professional.

What was your #1 favorite photography moments from this past year?

I did a photo shoot with a few people. All of the people were used to posing except for one of the females. This seemed like it would be a challenge. But I brought the best out of her, because her poses was better than everyone else’s. It was her 1st time modeling.

Black & white Vs. Color photography – your thoughts:

I like both. To me every picture is different. When I’m doing a wedding or photo shoot, I know what color I’m going to use on the picture in before I start working on them because of the type of shot. Black looks good when you bring out the story in it. Color is good for showing the vividness of the photo. Not every picture looks good in black & white, same with color.

Whose wedding (dead or alive) would you have liked the opportunity to photograph and why?

It would have to be my mother’s wedding. I was too young to shoot. My mom is from the West Indies, and the water is so clear you can see the fish swimming pass your feet. The colors are so vivid in the West Indies. I would have loved to bring all of it out in her wedding to make it extra special.
